The Leaf & the Ant

Paramatta Park, Sunday 8 February 2026

The leaf was all alone, lying on the tabletop, relaxing in the morning sun filtering through the trees and creating beautiful sciography with her curvatures.

Then came the ant, scurrying across the leaf like a tiny explorer mapping a new continent.

It was hot, so the cicadas were buzzing annoyingly loud all over, signaling the peak of the summer heat. To add to the cacophony, cockatoos were screeching too.

And then the ant left, disappearing back into the cracks of the wooden table, and the leaf still lay still, basking in the sun as if nothing mattered.

The Mighty Gum: Not far from where the leaf was resting stood the mighty gum with his branches swaying in a rhythmic dance. He has stood there for many years as a silent witness, watching over the endless, unfolding dramas of the park

The Humble Ficus: Humble Ficus has always stood beside the mighty Gum as a good friend. He has tirelessly filtered the harsh sun through the dense network of his branches and leaves, so that visitors of the park can enjoy the shade
